Spray-drying process was used for the development of drug complex with β-CD (β- cyclodextrin). The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of formulation and process variables on the resulting powder characteristics in order to optimize them. A facecentered central composite design was applied to optimize the spray drying process on a pilot scale (15 liters). Spray drying process variables investigated were: inlet temperature, spray rate and batch size. Based on the process variables moisture content, impurities and batch yield after the spray drying were determined. Multiple regression modeling was used to optimize the spray drying process parameters and additional experiments confirmed that these models were valid. Other powder properties like Hausner ratio and Carr’s index were also evaluated at the optimal operation conditions
