Numerical Analysis of Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) Based on Physical Properties of Synthetic Rocks to Determine the Fracture Toughness Value for the Hydraulic Fracturing Process

Ari Nuswantara M1 , Loren Pangestu M2, Utama W3

In oil and gas industries are indispensable various methods to increase the production of their exploitation during the hydrocarbon drilling. One of the most commonly used ways is hydraulic fracturing. Where this method water fluid is injected for mass initiates a fracture in formation desired reservoir. Then needed to know of the required hidraulic fracturing parameters. One of them is fracture toughness (KIC). Where this is a critical value of stress intensity factor (SIF). In this experiment used two sample class with major differences in volume comparisons cement and sand. In class A use a comparison volume 1: 10 and class B 1: 5. With each class having grain size of mesh # 4, # 8, # 16, # 30, # 50, # 70, # 100, # 140 and # 200 except class B plus grain sizes over # 200 and on the results of numerical analysis, fracture values are generated toughness of each class. In class A # 4 has a large 171.1,# 8 73.75, # 16 35.12, # 30 76.24, # 50 68.25, # 70 73.92, # 100280.4, # 140 306.8, # 200 160.3. Where as class B, on mesh# 4 0.177, # 8 1.0402, # 16 0.4477, # 30 0.1232, # 50 0.3888, # 704419, # 100 0.641, # 140 0.3575, # 200 0.6498, #> 200 0.5099.And the results will be compared with the value porosity of rock samples and uniaxial compressive strength test values, which a represented in the discussion of this report.
