Spectrophotometry is used to quantitate the number of a chromogen produced during a reaction between an analyte during a clinical sample and thus the reagents selective for that analyte. The quantity of chromogen from the reaction is proportional to the quantity of analyte within the clinical sample. Cooximetry, densitometry, turbidimetry, nephelometry, atomic adsorption, chemiluminescence, and fluorescence are some of the other important photometric techniques.
