Levothyroxine

Levothyroxine is given as a replacement for a hormone, normally produced by your thyroid gland in order to regulate the body's energy and metabolism. Levothyroxine is indicated when the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own. Levothyroxine is used to treat hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone), goiter (enlarged thyroid gland). Levothyroxine is also used in surgery and radioactive iodine therapy, for the treatment of thyroid cancer.
